First Team V FC Nedd (West Wales Cup First Round)
Greens Shock high flying FC Nedd

The first cup match of the season seen West End host high flying Neath league side FC Nedd in the first round of the West Wales cup. It was a big ask for unbeaten West End but given the form of weeks gone by, this promised to be an enthralling encounter.

From kick off West Ends Midfield looked in inspiring mood as Lloyd Weston, Jack Sutcliffe and Leon Goddard all started strong with some meaty tackles and some disciplined work. Nathan Lewis was also looking sharp on the left and after 11 minutes it was Nathan Lewis' corner that was headed home by Steve Preece. FC Nedd's goalkeeper then made two fantastic pin point saves from Stu Hemingway but 3 minutes later Nathan Lewis doubled West Ends lead with a fine finish to make it 2-0. FC Nedd continued to threat but it was West End who went in 2-0 up at Half Time.

The second half was another classic example of a cup tie as FC Nedd tried their best to break down West End but with Ollie Noor, Steve Preece, Brandon Curwood, Chris Evans and Goalkeeper Curtis Elliott all in fine form, it would always be very difficult for FC Nedd. On 55 minutes West End committed a foul on the edge of their penalty box. The outcome of the free kick was a goal for FC Nedd as their Midfielder looped the ball passed a scrambling Curtis Elliott. 2-1. Charlie Weston then came on for Lloyd Weston and gave West End a little more of a Defensive option. Rob Griffiths then worked up some magic down the right hand side as he and Stu Hemingway linked up well, Stu Hemingways shot was saved well by FC Nedd's Goalkeeper but his parry fell to the feet of Leon Goddard who blasted in to make it 3-1. Matthew Ellis replaced Nathan Lewis on 70 minutes and Steff Thomas replaced the consistent Stu Hemingway and Steff Thomas nearly made an immediate impact as his goal was ruled out by the referee for offside.

A fantastic display by West End United once again, the lads have hit some real good form, long may it continue. A trip to Second placed Drefach is on the cards next Saturday so im sure there will be more excitement along the way to the end of the season?
