With last weeks 2-2 draw with Kidwelly Reserves, West End Reserves were looking to bounce back with a victory over Pontarddulais A at the Elba in Gowerton.
Both teams started well as saves from both Goalkeepers kept the score down in the first ten minutes. Pontarddulais A had a good free kick shortly after which was handled safely by West End Keeper Charlie Weston. After 20 minutes 9 man Bont A went a goal up as their Midfielder broke free of the West End defence and played in a neat ball which their attacker tucked home. Five minutes later it was all square as debutant Ben Sargeant released Steff Thomas who slotted in under an onrushing Goalkeeper. 35 minutes into the game Bont A went ahead once again after an error from West Ends defence but on the stroke of half time West End pulled it back level as Ceri Edwards nodded in from a Steff Thomas corner. Half Time 2-2.
The second half saw the introduction of Brandon Newman at left back who replaced Ryan Warne-Thomas. The second half started well for West End as they started to pass the ball around with more intent, Leon Goddard was in fine form as he regained posession from a wide area and played an inch perfect pass for Steff Thomas who doubled his tally by squuezing the ball in at the Keepers near post. West End continued to keep the pressure on Bont A but got caught on the counter attack as Bont A equalised on the hour. After that it was very tight in Midfield as neither team were taking chances. With 70 minutes played Bont A's midfielder struck a thunderbolt from all of 35 yards which sailed past Keeper Charlie Weston who could only look on in disbelief. 4-3 to Bont A. With only 20 minutes to play West End brought on Tayler Thomas and Player manager Jack Sutcliffe, within minutes West Ends Steff Thomas was through on goal only to be tugged back by a Bont A defender. Seconds later the same defender was shown his marching orders for an off the ball incident. The resulting free kick lead to a corner which Ceri Edwards turned in to grab his second of the game and to make it 4-4. With 10 minutes remaining Tayler Thomas played in Steff Thomas who again finished in style to bag his hat-trick and put West End in front. Full Time 5-4 West End!
Great resillience shown by the boys today but im sure there is still a lot more to improve on!
