First team V Llangennech
Off to a flyer!

First game of the new league season after a good pre season. Llangennech were the visitors to Penygaer.

It was a close encounter from the off as both teams tried to find the decisive break through but it was West End's new signing Glyn Lloyd who broke the deadlock after great attacking play between Stu Hemingway and Rob Griffiths.

Llangennech continued to press but West End remained solid at the back as the lads went in 1-0 up at half time.

The second half saw Llangennech change their tactics as they opted for 3 in Midfield, West End decided to match them and it wasnt long before West end extended their lead which came from a Charlie Weston throw in. Dyfrig Frater who came on at half time set Curtis Evans free with a great opportunity only to be fouled in the penalty box! Penalty! With 70 plus goals last season, up pops Stu Hemingway to convert the penalty putting the Greens 2-0 up.

Llangennech then pushed further forward and started to cause some problems for the West End defence. Persistance finally payed off for the away team as they clawed a goal back making it 2-1.

Llangennech continued with the pressure but Debutant Keeper Gary Curwood, Chris Evans, Jason Harding, Ollie Noor and Steve Preece were not going to let the lead slip as they continued to keep Llangennech at bay from defence.

Just as it seemed that Llangennech would draw level Ollie Noor broke out of defence and threaded a lovely pass out to Stu Hemingway who delivered a sublime ball through to Curtis Evans who calmly slotted the ball in to make it 3-1.

West End could have gone further in front towards the end of the game but for some heroic Goalkeeping from stalwart Llangennech Keeper Neil Bryant but it finished 3-1 to West End and a great result to start off the new season.
